Krista Martynes is a multi-media clarinetist who brings new life to standard and new repertoire. She broadens her performances with inventive improv including audio and video sampling that maintains an acoustic character. Krista is known for her eclectic performance range; from classical to contemporary to improvisation. She performs as a soloist, chamber music, and ensemble clarinetist. Krista continuously adds depth to her boundless creative performances in major concert venues across the globe.
An accomplished classical and contemporary clarinetist, Krista has performed with the innovative franco-german "Orchestre des Régions Europénnes" under the direction of Konrad Von Abel, former assistant to Celibidache. She has participated in the Brockport Chamber Music Festival, and the Performing Arts York Region concert series. She also performed as a soloist and chamber musicain in the Musikprotokoll and Transart Festival in Italy, and the Klangspuren Festival in Austria. She lectured at the Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium and performed in the Sound Play Festival as part of the Symposium. Her video commission from New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) will be featured in Hamilton and Toronto in 2010. She will also be performing in the New Ways Sound Festival in St Petersburg, Russia in November 2010.
Krista actively seeks new opportunities to further new music, and within the last few years has commissioned pieces from Bryan Jacobs, Brian Harman, Jacob Sudol, and Nicolas Tzortzis. She has developed a new media commission for a piece with clarinet, live and fixed electronics as well as live and fixed video from Julien-Robert Legault Salvail. Krista had the opportunity to work with the Germany's Experimental Studio des SWR under the direction of Andre Richard, performing and participating in a documentary on the music of Luigi Nono. She was involved with the Aldeburgh New Music New Media program working with the British organization Sound Intermedia and Flat -E.
Krista is a doctoral candidate at the University of Montreal working on contemporary and multi-media performance, where she won an exchange from the University of Paris. She enjoyed her experience working and learning at various conservatories in France and two Accademias in Italy. Currently, Krista can be heard and enjoyed in diverse contexts in various orchestras, with her innovative Trio '86, in her contemporary ensemble Cliq:Musiq, and with her improv collective - Arguments with an Elephant.
