Twice commissioned by the Fromm Music Foundation for orchestral works, the 2006-2007 Rome Prize recipient, Ken Ueno, is a composer who holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University and is currently an Assistant Professor and the Director of the Electronic Music Studios at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth.
As a vocalist, Ken specializes in extended techniques including overtone singing, vocal multiphonics, circular breathing, and singing sub-tones and extreme high registers (in the range of 6-ledger line Ds). As a laptop artist, he often integrates his voice with software instruments he designed using Max/MSP. His two main groups are the experimental improvisation group, Onda (w/Tim Feeney, perc., Hillary Zipper, violin) and the avant-rock group, Blood Money (w/Tom Worster, Nord synth., Jon Whitney, 808 + effects).
